The kitchen

Dinner, cooked over fire

One sitting, one menu, whatever is best that week. Most of it is grown, reared or foraged within a few miles, and cooked over the wood-fired range. Breakfast is long and unhurried, and there is always something on the hob.

Dinner £48 for three courses · Breakfast included

A candlelit dining table laid with linen, greenery and simple ceramics
Golden-hour light over the rolling hills and fields of the Dales

The dale

A thousand acres out the back door

  • Walks from the door

Footpaths onto the fell straight from the yard. We will lend you boots, a map and a flask.

  • The beck

A cold, clear swimming hole a ten-minute walk downstream. Bracing in June, heroic in October.

  • The sauna

A wood-fired cedar sauna in the old dairy, with a bucket shower and a view of the stars.

  • Dark skies

Some of the darkest skies in England. We leave a telescope and a blanket by the back door.

Guest book

  • We came for two nights and left having barely used the car. Woke to mist on the fell, walked all day, ate like royalty, slept like the dead.

    Stayed in March

  • The kind of place you want to keep to yourself. Every detail considered, nothing fussy. The kitchen alone is worth the drive.

    Priya D.

    Stayed in October

  • Genuinely the most rested I have felt in years. No wifi in the room turned out to be the whole point.
